How to Apply Eyelash Extensions

Eyelash extensions are a popular form of beauty treatment. It takes practice and dedication to apply them properly, especially if you are just beginning as a lash artist. This blog will explain how to apply eyelash extensions correctly and safely, as well as how to care for them.

One of the most highly sought-after jobs in the beauty industry is lash artistry. There are many ways to apply, remove and maintain eyelash extensions. Here are my top tips for eyelash artists preparing for their lash appointments.

How Can You Apply Eyelash Extensions to Beginners?

Step 1. Wash the Client’s Eyes

Cleansing the lashes is important to prevent the adhesive that holds the lash extensions in their place from being damaged by oil and makeup.

Step 2. Apply Primer to Client’s Lashes

Primer is a pretreatment to enhance the retention of eyelash extensions. Primer improves the attachment of lash extensions and natural lashes.

Step 3. Apply the Under-Eye Patches Gently

Take your time when applying lash patches. Your lash extension tweezers should be kept in check. Their tips should not touch the eye pad in most cases.

Examine the eye pads. It is always better to have 0 lower lashes glued together, 0 showing through under eye pads and tape. The goal is for all lashes to be always isolated for lash health & integrity.

Step 4. Map Out Your Eyelash Set

Lash mapping saves time. Map before beginning the set & then make the fans by hand for each natural lash. No matter how many years you’ve been lashing, eyelash mapping is vital to providing excellent lash extensions for your clients.

Step 5. Isolation

Both tweezers make it much easier to position and separate the tiny lashes of your client. It is better to use 2 tweezers, left and right hand, one for isolation natural lashes, and one for applying the extension.

Step 6. Slowly Dip the Lash Into the Glue

Dip the extension in the adhesive and hold it with its tapered end. This will ensure that the glue is not too thick or too thin. Use the right amount of lash glue to avoid any retention problems.

Step 7. Properly Isolate and Apply the Extensions

To isolate the natural lashes, swipe the extension together with the natural lash.

Use the wrapping technique. Cover the natural lash with adhesive, starting at the base and ending at the tip. Use equal amounts of lash adhesive to smoothen it.

Step 8. Lash Extension Application

Before applying the lash extension on the natural eyelash, dip it with enough adhesive to coat it around .5mm – 1mm from the front eyelid.

Keep going until you reach your desired look. This will help you avoid it from sticking by allowing your natural lashes to be more prominent. Lash 80-90% of lashes until evenly full, and allow the glue to dry before working next to that recently applied extension.

Step 9. Separate the Lashes

Do not stick multiple lash extensions or natural lashes together. With two sets of lash tweezers, separate any lash extensions that are stuck together. Grab the base of the extensions and separate it horizontally.

Never pull your natural lashes in any way that is rigid or vertical. Continue the separation and application steps until each natural eyelash is bonded to its own lash.

Step 10. Dry the Lash Adhesive

After all the lash extensions are securely bonded, let dry for 3 to 5 minutes.

A super bonder is required to strengthen your adhesive bond. Use a lash fan to fan away the fumes, glue dries under the right humidity and temperature conditions. Use distilled water to mist the lashes, then dry them for three minutes.

How Can You Save Your Eyelash Extensions Correctly and Safely?

Lash Addict Studio only uses the finest lash products to ensure that natural lashes are not damaged during removal. Lash cream removers are fast and safe for removing unwanted lash extensions.

  1. The lash remover is applied and dissolves the adhesive bonds. This allows lash extensions to be removed gently without putting pressure on the natural lash.
  2. Use a micro swab to gently remove the lash extensions. Rinse thoroughly after removing the lash extensions. The formula is easy-to-use and won’t get in your client’s eyes.
  3. To remove any residue, we recommend washing the eyelashes with a lash shampoo and wiping the eyes with lint-free wipes.
  4. After your lashes have dried, you can either start your complete set of lashes or refill them.

Lash Aftercare Instructions

Lash extensions need special care and high maintenance. However, gentle care is enough to keep them in great condition. Proper aftercare is essential for client retention as well as your professional reputation. These include:

  • Be gentle with your eyelashes. Avoid pulling or rubbing your eyelashes.
  • Keep the extensions dry for approximately 24 hours after the appointment.
  • Keep oil-based products out of reach of your eyes. Oil can cause the adhesive to fail, leading to premature loss of lash extensions. Make sure you wash your lashes at least once a day to prevent buildup. Always use oil-free face care products.
  • After the lash application, you can go to the pool or the beach but make sure to wash the lashes after. Saltwater can cause the lash adhesive to dry out and become brittle.
  • Avoid sticking your head in the oven while you bake. Too much heat can cause hair to singe. Turn your head away when you are putting something in the oven or taking it out.
  • Eyelash curlers and mascara should not be used.
  • Don’t try to remove the extensions on your own. Instead, book an appointment with your lash technician.
  • After getting extensions, you should brush your eyelashes every day. Brushing your lashes will solve most of your lash problems. You can brush your lashes gently if you notice any problems.
