There are many articles that target lash extensions clients. But where can lash artists find information? It is crucial to maintain your client’s trust and your professional reputation by providing proper eyelash extension aftercare. Here’s a guide for lash artists on how to care for their clients. These eyelash extension aftercare guidelines are universal and will not change based on how you apply adhesive. It is advisable for these practices to be taught to all clients.
Eyelash Extension Aftercare Guidelines
Your clients want their lashes to be gorgeous for as long as they can. These tips will help clients maintain their stunning lash extensions.
You might consider giving clients a printed copy of the eyelash extension aftercare instructions to help them remember between appointments. To educate clients on proper lash care, print the instructions on cute colored paper.
These are seven guidelines to follow when you get eyelash extensions.
1. Wash Lashes Daily
The most important after-care tip for eyelash extensions is to wash your eyes daily. Clients seem to forget that washing their lashes daily is the most important step. This is something that lash lovers should never forget. Wash, wash, wash and wash again! Clients think that they can’t touch their eyelash extensions if we tell them to avoid moisture.
Washing their eyelashes every day will ensure that they are free from any oily products or debris. You could also see lash mites. Yuck. Show your clients what lash mites look and they will be more likely to use Lash Addict Studio Collagen +EFG Lashampoo.
2. Avoid Moisture
You should inform your clients that if you do not use a nano-mist, they will need 24 hours to apply any moisture to their eyelash extensions. Some clients may not be able to take a hot shower or cook over the stove for a while. This information should be made known to clients before they book their service.

Too soon introduction of water molecules to clients’ eyelash extensions could lead to their lashes falling out almost instantly. A nano mister can reduce the waiting time for clients. The waiting time of 24 hours can be cut down to 20 hours with a nano mister. To add moisture, clients will need to wait only four hours. The science behind how nano misters work is amazing, especially if you’re a lash nerd.
3. Avoid Oil Around the Eyes
This is a must-have after-care tip for eyelash extensions. Oil-based products should be avoided. This is what many clients think: “Okay, no more oil-based mascara… Easy!” Wrong.
Because it doesn’t end there. It is amazing how much product can seep into the skin. This includes foundation, moisturizing products, and facial cleansers. These products can get so deeply into our skin, they can reach our lash follicles, even if we don’t look at them! Even more important, you should inform your clients that oil-based body lotions can cause retention problems without them even realizing it!
4. Avoid Touching/Rubbing Your Lashes
It can be completely subconscious to touch your eyelashes or rub your eyes. Clients have been known to rub their eyes while they sleep. That’s why clients should be aware that rubbing their eyes in bed will cause their lash extensions prematurely to fall out. Their oils and lotions will cause the adhesive to break down, causing them more frequent lash fills. This is not a good thing in this instance!
5. Avoid Sleeping On Your Lashes
This is another important eyelash extension aftercare rule. Face sleepers are something I can openly admit to. However, face sleepers can be easily identified. A face sleeper is someone who has lashes that go in every direction. Particularly if one eye has crazy lashes on their dominant face-sleep side.
This is something to keep in mind when creating a client profile. These clients often come back to you and tell you that they don’t know how they lost their lashes, or that they only have one eye. If you have their profile, you can find the answer! “YOU ARE A FACE SLEEPER!”
It is great if your clients are able to avoid sleeping on their lashes. It is better to inform clients that they cannot sleep directly on their lashes. They will be able to set realistic expectations for their eyelash extensions aftercare and retention. To make it easier on their extensions, suggest they use a silk pillowcase.
6. Avoid Extreme Heat
I’ve had clients with seared eyes come to see me. They either have been too close to the souffle in their oven or their cigarette or candle. These are obvious problems. This may not be an obvious point, but it might be something to remember for clients who haven’t had to be cautious around heat. Clients new to lash extensions don’t have to worry about their natural hair shriveling in the heat. Before clients come in with concerns about their lashes melting, make sure to address this aftercare rule.
7. Avoid Chemical Peels and Facials
Without dissecting every chemical, product, and ingredient, we cannot determine if chemical peels or procedures will cause retention problems for our clients. If a client asks, the best thing to do is to avoid the eye area. As I said earlier, this will prevent any traces of makeup from getting into the lash line.
Experience will teach you everything you need to know about eyelash extensions aftercare and retention. However, it is worth learning as much as you can while you wait. Clients will be impressed with you and loyal to your “all-lash-knowing” artist. It’s always a good idea to place our lash aftercare products to increase sales and happy lashes.
